Psychotherapy

I have been working and studying in the field of psychotherapy and trauma for over 35 years. From my experience, people seek psychological services for a variety of reasons. The most common reason is the pain and suffering of psychological symptoms. These symptoms include anxiety, depression, destructive behavior toward self and others, difficulty in personal relationships, substance abuse, eating disorders, psychosis, and a myriad of others.

The psychotherapeutic process enables one to understand their psychological symptoms and to relate them to lived experience. The goal of treatment is to integrate one’s experience of themselves and their life in order to live fully, freely and without painful symptoms.

My approach to psychotherapy is to facilitate an organic process that is driven by the patient and his or her life experience. I encourage patients to remember their dreams and bring them into the treatment in order to further the process of understanding painful psychological symptoms. By allowing the dreams to drive the treatment, an organic process leading toward integration and conscious living is possible.

I take a serious approach to my work and ask my patients to do the same. The commitment to healing symptoms is a serious commitment and usually requires the patient to cope with some pain and frustration. I am committed to supporting my patients through this difficult work and believe that serious treatment can lead to a freer and more integrated life.

I have been trained in both Jungian and Freudian psychoanalysis and bring an eclectic approach to my work. I am deeply interested in mythology, literature, film and art as a rich means to understand the complex experience of living life. Please view Anne’s CV to learn more about her clinical experience.

Social Justice Work

I am an expert in evaluating and treating survivors of trauma. I have specialized in treating trauma since I began my career in 1982. Working in residential treatment facilities and day schools with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and their families for the first twelve years of my career allowed me to learn intimately about the pain and symptoms that come with exposure to traumatic experiences. I have also been a committed volunteer at the Marjorie Kovler Center for Survivors of Political Torture for over 25 years. I served as a supervisor to clinical interns, an evaluator and expert witness for those seeking asylum and a therapist for survivors of torture. I have also worked in hospice and helped individuals and families with bereavement.

In my private practice, I work with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma and suffer from dissociation and other acute symptoms. I also specialize in working with patients who have lost a parent or partner, survivors of incest and domestic abuse and those recovering from illness and accidents.

Anne approaches her work with such thoughtfulness, care, and expertise. We have been especially grateful for her work with our immigrant clients who have survived trauma and are suffering from PTSD and other disorders.

Expert Witness

I have extensive experience as an expert witness in cases involving PTSD, asylum, deportation, domestic abuse and child welfare. I am an effective and compassionate evaluator and I write quality psychological reports. My proficient capacity to explicate the complex symptoms and behaviors related to PTSD and trauma in both written affidavits and psychological reports and in legal testimony has been a decisive factor in the positive outcome of difficult legal cases. I have done expert witness work for the Marjorie Kovler Center for Victims of Political Torture and for the National Immigrant Justice Center.

Astrology

I have enjoyed studying astrology since I first had an astrological reading at age nineteen. I was so surprised by the depth and accuracy of the reading I received that I decided to investigate the subject for myself. I spent the next three years reading extensively about astrology. I have since continued to study astrology and the vast array of subjects it contains. Not only is astrology an amazing tool to understand oneself and others, it also leads to a deep appreciation of the stars, space and our short time as visitors in this vast universe and solar system we call home.

Over the years, I have read hundreds of charts. The combination of my knowledge of astrology and psychology informs my unique approach to interpreting the horoscope. In fact, early in my studies of astrology I recognized the profound value that astrology could add to psychotherapy and dream work. To quote Carl Jung, “Astrology is assured of recognition from psychology, without further restrictions, because astrology represents the summation of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.

I approach each astrological consultation with intuition and empathy, bringing my breadth of experience and knowledge to each reading. I study many astrological paradigms and my readings address questions regarding career, relationships, lifecycles and current life challenges. My approach is to be in engaged dialogue with the client, learning your story and perspective, I welcome questions and conversation, and create a therapeutic learning environment for each client.

I offer astrological consultations that explore both the natal chart—the position of the planets at the moment of one’s birth—as well as personal transits—the relationships formed between the continuous movements of the planets and the natal chart.
